New Publication from the Nebraska Education Committee

There is a new publication from the Nebraska Education Committee that is available on the Grand Lodge web site.  The title is Newcomer’s Guide to Masonry.  It can be found under the resources tab and then in the publications section.  It’s a PDF so it can be read on nearly any device or platform.

This short publication is intended to be given to new Master Masons (or old ones that need to brush up) to help them get a start on learning all the ins an outs of our Craft.  It has practical information on the working of the Lodge, the officer corp and more.  It also makes a great companion for any Lodge mentoring program.

This publication will be e mailed to all new Master Masons from the Grand Lodge when we get their information after their raising.

Please take a look at this exciting new publication and share with your Lodge!

Recognition Night Dinner at Centennial Lodge No. 326

On 23 October, Lady Ann, MWB Russ Reno and I attended the annual recognition night dinner at Centennial Lodge No. 326 in Omaha.  This dinner not only recognizes the Past Masters of the Lodge but also is a time to award year pins and other awards.

I had the honor of presenting Bro. James Wolfe with the Daniel Beard Scouting award. This award is given to a Mason that has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the Scouts.  In fact, the list of Brother Jim’s accomplishments in both Scouting and Masonry is overwhelming!  He truly deserves this honor.

I also had the honor to award a 50 year pin to WB John Waden.  WB John is another one of those Masons whose devotion to the Craft and accomplishments in the Craft are staggering.  MWB Russ worked with WB John for many years in Job’s and was honored to be picked by WB John to put the 50 year pin on his lapel.

Great night, great food, great fellowship! Congratulations and well done, Brethren of Centennial Lodge!

An Afternoon in Tuscany at the Masonic Home

On 20 October, Lady Ann and I attended the annual donor recognition dinner for the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. This dinner recognizes all the donors to the Caring Club and the George W. Lininger Society (if you don’t know what those are, call me or the Home!).

This year’s theme was An Afternoon in Tuscany.  The menu was very Italian and quite well done!  The dietary staff at the Home does all the preparation and cooking and they do a fantastic job.  This year the dinner was in the new Mary C. Stapp wing dining room.  The room was decorated beautifully and we all felt very spoiled.  After the usual introductions and speeches, we were entertained by the cowboy poetry of Marci Broyhill.  She was incredible and really made the day special.

If you are not a member of the Caring Club or Lininiger Society, would you please consider becoming one?  This is an important part of supporting the Masonic Home.  Please contact the Home or myself for more information.

Area Meeting at Western Star Lodge No. 2

On Wednesday 16 October, RW John Maxell, WB’s Bob Moninger and Patrick Barger and the GC Bruce Watkins and myself traveled to Western Star Lodge No. 2 in Nebraska City for an area meeting.  The meeting was well attended and the discussions were very productive.  Afterwards, we were treated to a fine Mexican meal by the Jobbies!

Western Star No. 2 has a most unique Lodge room with an old style tin ceiling with inset Masonic symbols.  It’s worth the drive to Nebraska City on Lodge night to see the room!

Area Meeting at McCook Lodge No. 135

On 15 October, WB Bob Moninger, VW Don Rife and myself attended the area meeting at McCook Lodge.  The meeting went very well with lots of good questions and discussion.

If you’ve never been to McCook Lodge you should go.  It’s a very impressive Lodge room!

Area Meeting Garfield Lodge No. 95

On 14 October, I traveled to Garfield Lodge No. 95 in O’Neill to attend the area meeting being run by RW Dennis Rix.  Although a little light on attendance, the discussions were very good and there was positive support for the Grand Master recommendations.

Seneca Lodge No. 284 Centennial Celebration

On 12 October, Lady Ann and I traveled to Thedford to participate in the Centennial Celebration for Seneca Lodge No. 284.  We had a wonderful lunch followed by a brief history of the Lodge given by the WM.  After the speeches, we just enjoyed some good fellowship and a great cake.  Congratulations to Seneca Lodge for 100 years of service!

Area Meetings

The first two area meetings have been held and the feedback on the recommendations has been very positive! Last night, there were area meetings in Kearney and Tekamah with several Lodges represented at both meetings.

I attended the meeting in Kearney and got some really good questions and feedback on the recommendations. This is why we have area meetings so we can fine tune the recommendations before AC and make sure they meet the approval of the Craft.

Please plan to attend an area meeting near you and let us know what your feedback is on the recommendations.  Even if you don’t have a vote at AC, you are still welcome to come and discuss.

Thank you!

Humanitarian Award for WB Ched House

On 9 October, I had the extreme honor of presenting WB Ched House with the Grand Master’s Humanitarian Award.  Bro. House has been chairman of the Fremont home board for 29 years and the list of his accomplishments as a Mason and a community member takes up several pages!  He is truly an inspiration to all of us to do the best that we can for our community and our fraternity!

Here is the link to the article on Ched in the Fremont Tribune: Click Here
